4-H Operation Military Kids
The 4-H Operation Military Kids program is a national initiative designed to reach out to military youth and families before, during, and after their parent’s deployment.
The Florida program combines the efforts of 4-H members, volunteers, and staff to provide community support and educational programs to benefit youth and families of National Guard, Reserves, and Accessions.
The 4-H OMK Program:
- Creates community support networks for military youth when soldier parents are deployed.
- Delivers recreational, social and educational programs for military youth living in civilian communities.
- Supports military youth coping with the stress of knowing their parents may be in harm’s way.
- Collaborates with schools to ensure that staff is attuned to the unique needs of military students.
- Educates the public on the impact of the deployment cycle.
- Provides the opportunity for military youth to become part of the ongoing 4-H program.
Youth Volunteer Opportunities
Speak Out For Military Kids (SOMK)
SOMK is a community service component of the OMK program to train military and non-military youth to establish speaker’s bureaus to raise community awareness of issues faced by geographically dispersed military youth affected by deployment.
OMK Summer Volunteer Program
The summer volunteer program mobilizes youth volunteers throughout the summer to work on a specific project that focuses on the OMK program. In addition to developing and completing the project, volunteers gain valuable workforce skills and a sense of service.
