Environment & Earth Science

  • Marine Program - Shells Alive - A look at where and how shells live and the marine snails that makes the shells.
  • Marine Program - Wetlands - A look at the importance of wetlands to a healthy Florida environment
  • Marine Program - Shark Awareness: At look at Sharks and Rays.
  • Water and our Ecosystem - *Must be enrolled in the Earth or Water curriculum. The speaker, using the Enviroscape© source kit; will lead the youth in visual hands-on activities to explore cause and effect of land use and water quality.

Social Studies

  • 4-H Pizza Garden: An Agricultural Adventure. *Must be enrolled in the curriculum. A 40-minute introductory lesson to the Pizza Garden: An Agricultural Adventure, which includes each student making butter and tasting it on crackers. This is to help youth learn that food originates from a farm, and to realize that our nation’s most vital industry is agriculture.


Plants and Animals

  • Butterfly Gardening - Presentation of information on the life cycle of butterflies along with the specific plants required as food for larval forms. The plants that provide food as nectar for adult butterflies will also be discussed.
  • Vegetable Gardening - Information is presented about the proper preparation of the soil for planting a vegetable garden. The planting of seeds is covered along with the growth cycle of vegetables and harvesting.
  • Native Plants - A discussion of the native plants that are adapted to grow in the soil and climatic conditions of Pinellas County.
  • Insect Facts - Information about insects and their life cycles and why they are important in this world.
  • Florida Wildlife (Slideshow) People love seeing wildlife pictures and learning interesting facts about some of their favorite Florida wildlife. Bobcat, fox, snakes, bats, birds and many other wildlife species are discussed. Program for all ages. (Best if shown in a darkened room to 25 students or more. Classes may be combined.) Time 1 hour.
  • Sensing Wildlife - During this interactive program, minds stir about wildlife, their habitats and behaviors. Hands-on materials stimulate thoughts, questions, and understanding. To facilitate learning, animal calls, fossils, scat (plastic), feathers, and animal tracks are often used. Best if shown in a darkened room to 25 students or more. Classes may be combined. Time 1 hour.
  • Tracking Wildlife Must review “The World Around us 4-H Wildlife”with students before presentation. Shhh, and watch your step! We are tracking wildlife. Learn about Florida's animals while creating your own wildlife track to take home. Materials to be supplied by teacher at a cost of $3.00 per person. Time 1 to 1-1/2 hrs.
  • Landscaping for Florida Wildlife (Slideshow) Must review “Habitats” with the students before presentation . With so many people in Florida, how can we keep wildlife alive? Uncover wildlife homes, foods and behaviors and realize that we can all live together. Discover the four basic requirements for wildlife to survive and learn how you can make a difference! Best if shown in a darkened room to 25 students or more. Classes may be combined. Time 1 hour.

Healthy Life Style

  • Super Snacking - Must be enrolled in one of the Nutrition Curriculums. An interactive session for 3 - 5th grade students on selecting healthy snacks. Students will have an opportunity to sample nutritious snacks.

Personal Development

  • Volunteerism - Grades 9-12 - Stresses the importance and opportunity to volunteer with a youth initiative in Pinellas County. Promotes positive aspects of volunteering.
  • Community Service - Grades 6-12 - What is it and why should we do it?
  • Youth Leadership - Grades 6-12 - Interactive session on building leadership and teamwork skills.
