Plants and People
Cultivated Plants and their Uses
Suitable for Grades: K-12
Program Available: Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday
This program focuses on the cultivation of plants by humans, and the many reasons why. Fruit production is well demonstrated in the Tropical Fruit Garden. Here students can discover banana, pineapple, citrus and a range of weird and wonderful tropical fruits. The vegetable demonstration area allows us to teach the methods of food production. The Herb Garden serves as a beautiful backdrop for discussion of the many products humans have garnered from this group of plants. Clothing, paper, medicine, teas, and perfumes all start from here!
Optional activities following Plants and People

Herbal Sachets – students create a lovely sachet to take home, made from the leaves of herbs found in the Herb Garden.
