Cooking Matters

As a part of the Family Nutrition Program (FNP), University of Florida /IFAS Extension in Pinellas County offers a six-week cooking and nutrition education course for SNAP-Eligible parents and caregivers.  You need to RSVP for each course and space is limited! Courses serve an average of 15 participants and sessions last for 2 hours.

Classes are regularly held in the following locations in Pinellas County:

  • Tarpon Springs
  • Largo
  • North Clearwater
  • Lealman
  • Highpoint
  • St. Petersburg (North and South)

Lessons 1 through 4 include chef-led participatory food preparation sessions with sufficient groceries for participants to make and eat a serving of two to three recipes during class. During these classes, participants are provided with a take-home bag of groceries with the primary ingredients to make at least one recipe at home. Lesson 5 includes a trip to the grocery store in which participants are given the opportunity to practice their shopping skills and purchase a healthy basket of foods for no more than $10.
