Welcome

The Pinellas Green Government Partnership is made up of representatives from the local municipal and county governments. The purpose of the partnership is to provide networking and collaboration on sustainable government practices. In 2008, 19 elected officials from local governments throughout Pinellas County signed the Mayor’s Green City Action Accord. This is a commitment to work within their local government to develop programs that promote sustainability. The Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) Green Local Government Initiative helps support local governments through a certification process. Local governments can become the model for sustainable practices which support the economy, environment and society.

UF/IFAS Pinellas County Extension, in partnership with local governments and the FGBC, initiated the Pinellas Green Government Partnership to:

  • promote sustainability within local governments
  • provide resources
  • share best practices

This networking committee of local representatives began the process of building a partnership for a sustainable future for Pinellas County. Pinellas County local governments have already implemented many innovative programs that can be shared throughout Pinellas County. Several communities have been awarded or are applying for Green Local Government certifications.

Within this website, local governments have provided documents related to their sustainability efforts. Other useful resources are also provided. Please contact Pinellas County Extension for more information: mcampbell@pinellascounty.org
