Course Description

Through classroom, field trip, and practical experience, this module provides instructions on the general ecology, habitats, vegetation types, wildlife, and conservation issues of Coastal Systems in Florida – Coastal Uplands, Estuarine, and Nearshore Marine Environments. The program also address society’s role in coastal areas, develops naturalist interpretation skills, and discusses environmental ethics.

The training consists of 40 contact hours. The only requirements of students are enthusiasm, attendance, and completion of final group projects. There is no comprehensive exam required. Classroom learning includes 4 instructional videos and 12 presentations.

The cost of the Coastal Systems Module is $225. See LINK to register. Upon completion of the Coastal Systems Module, the student will receive a certificate, a FMNP/UF Embroidered Patch, and a FMNP Coastal Systems Lapel Pin. The student will be registered in the University of Florida IFAS database for Florida Master Naturalists as FMNP Coastal Naturalist. Pinellas County graduates are encouraged to join our FMNP Continued Education Committee, quarterly programs, and monthly field trips.
