Course Description
Through classroom, field trip, and practical experience, this module provides instructions on the general ecology, habitats, vegetation types, wildlife, and conservation issues of Uplands Habitats in Florida – Hardwood Forests, Pinelands, Scrub, Dry Prairie, Rangelands and Urban green spaces. The program also address society’s role in uplands, develops naturalist interpretation skills, and discusses environmental ethics.
The training consists of 40 contact hours. The only requirements of students are enthusiasm, attendance, and completion of final group projects. There is no comprehensive exam required. Classroom learning includes 4 instructional videos and 12 presentations.

The cost of the Upland Habitats Module is $225. See LINK to register. Upon completion of the Upland Habitats Module, the student will receive a certificate, a FMNP/UF Embroidered Patch, and a FMNP Upland Habitats Lapel Pin. The student will be registered in the University of Florida IFAS database for Florida Master Naturalists as FMNP Upland Naturalist. Pinellas County graduates are encouraged to join our FMNP Continued Education Committee, quarterly programs, and monthly field trips.
